What is Poetry?
Poetry — from ancient Greek: ποιεω (poieo) = I create
Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content.
Poetry is often created from the need to escape the logical, as well as expressing feelings and other expressions in a condensed manner.
My Wordsmith Journey
I consider myself an apprentice wordsmith. I seek to share what I have seen and know, mere prose unworthy of the depths of my experience; poetry the form and feel of my yearning.
Devices and Forms
The poet must study devices and forms. The wordsmith must cast these things to the wind and write.
Poets to Explore
How are we to learn the craft of wordsmithing? Study poets. Eat poetry for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Write.
Poetry for Children
Before we can teach children the power of the pen, we must teach them to love words.
Here you will find a random sampling of my own poetry.
